Guitarra Guy Davis
The stage, music, and civic action have always been with Guy Davis. He is the son of actors Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, friends of Martin Luther King (Ossie paid tribute to him in New York’s Central Park the day after he was killed), Malcolm X and Jesse Jackson.
Guy is an actor, musician, singer and bluesman, born in 1952. He taught himself guitar, and as an actor he came to prominence playing the lead role in the off-Broadway production Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil, for which he won the 1993 Keeping Blues Alive award.
He normally plays solo, in the tradition of Leadbelly and Sonny Terry. His latest CD is named after the Dylan classic Sweetheart Like You, and he recently performed at Pete Seeger’s 90th birthday show.
